Growing up, what kind of relationship did you have with money?

Growing up I always attempted to get the highest marginal utility out of anything I was purchasing. Knowing that money was what I needed to purchase different items, I did my best to make my dollars stretch.

What was it like to serve as an SFEPD Student Ambassador teaching your peers about personal finance, and what did you learn about yourself from this experience?

Serving as an SFEPD Student Ambassador has put me in a position to challenge my knowledge on financial subjects. I learned that I belong; I know this may not seem like it is important but I am now on the other side of the financial questions.

What are the major benefits of students learning personal finance skills through seminars and classes during their college years?

Personal finance education empowers college students to take control of their financial futures, make sound financial decisions, and work towards achieving their financial goals.

When should students start learning basic concepts about personal finance (in elementary, middle school, high school, or college) and why?

Introducing personal finance education in elementary school sets young people on a path towards financial literacy and success. It instills important values and habits early on, equipping children with the skills they need to make informed financial decisions and achieve financial well-being throughout their lives.

If you could share one financial tip with college students, what would it be?

One financial tip that I would share with current college students is to prepare for graduation in order to have access to a pool of money when the leave school or for emergencies.

As a result of your Student Ambassador experience, what key lessons did you learn to help you manage your money better and is planning for your financial future an important goal after college?

As a result of my experience as a student ambassador, I have made changes on what insurance I will pursue in the future and also what investment routes I plan to take in the near future.

How did serving as a Student Ambassador help you prepare for your future and your career goals?

My career goal is to work in the realm of asset management. Working as a Student Ambassador for SFEPD has allowed me to see real-world portfolios. It has also allowed me to assist people in my community in obtaining knowledge that will help them make better financial decisions.
