Why Financial Literacy Matters
Financial literacy is more than just understanding numbers; it’s about making smart decisions that will shape your financial health, stability, and build wealth. By gaining a solid foundation in financial literacy, you’ll be able to apply practical applications of personal money management concepts and navigate life’s financial challenges and opportunities.
Our online course consists of eight modules:
Digital Credentials
Upon completion of the Mind Over Money Skills Financial Literacy Certificate, users will receive a verified digital badge through our partnership with Credly. These badges enable you to easily share your skills and accomplishments online and include verified metadata detailing the Financial Literacy qualification and the earning process.
These digital badges can be utilized in email signatures, digital resumes, personal websites, and social media platforms, enhancing opportunities in the workforce and beyond.
To earn this credential, users must complete the full 8-module course on key personal finance topics and achieve at least a 70% on the assessments throughout each module.

Financial Literacy at HBCUs
“Data shows that only 1 of 20 students entering HBCUs has had a personal finance course. The inclusion of the Mind Over Money Skills course is of the utmost importance. The course will enable HBCUs to take a holistic approach and add value to their student’s education by providing the financial knowledge and skills needed to ensure their success both while in school and after graduation.
Our online Mind Over Money Skills course and on-site financial literacy training sessions presented by SFEPD financial educators will fill the void in the education of HBCU students. Through the education of HBCU students, the financial knowledge and skills gained from the course will be transferred to their respective households, resulting in an overall increase in financial knowledge in the Black community.”
“As President of Hampton University, I am extremely pleased by our partnership with the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development. Ted’s program – and the dedication of his professional team – has equipped our students with game-changing knowledge about their personal finances. The material is crisp, clear, and relevant, and it resonates loudly with our student body. I’m proud of our collaboration, and I look forward to continuing to make student financial literacy a core aspect of the Hampton University higher education experience. Thank you, SFEPD.“
