Washington, DC, October 8, 2008—The First Annual Financial Literacy Leadership Conference commenced Wednesday, October 8th, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at the National Harbor. The Honorable Anna Escobedo Cabral, United States Treasurer, served as the keynote speaker for the event. The conference brought together leaders and prominent officials of the financial education community to discuss pertinent issues related to increasing the financial literacy of Americans.
Sponsors HSBC-North America and GMAC Financial Services, Inc., were on hand at the Conference and celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the founding of the Society for Financial Education & Professional Development (SFEPD). In celebration of its 10 years, SFEPD showed its appreciation of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) participating in SFEPD’s financial literacy programs. In an award ceremony, 22 schools were recognized.
Attendees of the conference were given the opportunity to attend five different workshops over the course of the day, including a listening session with members of the U.S. President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy, where attendees were given the chance to talk directly to members.
The Society for Financial Education & Professional Development would like to thank all attendees and participants of its 10th Anniversary Celebration and the First Annual Financial Literacy Leadership Conference (click here for a slide show of the event) who made this special event a success! We look forward to your attendance and participation next year.
