Theodore R. Daniels Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

WASHINGTON, DC — Theodore R. Daniels, President and CEO of the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development (SFEPD), received a 2009 National Association of Equal Opportunity in Education (NAFEO) Distinguished Alumni Award. Mr. Daniels was saluted at NAFEO’s 35th National Conference which was held at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. NAFEO is the only national membership association of its kind represents over one hundred Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) located in twenty-five states, the District of Columbia and Virgin Islands.

This award, given by NAFEO, honors those who have distinguished themselves in their profession, community and the nation for excellence and altruism as well as continued support for their alma mater. Mr. Daniels was nominated for the award by his alma mater, Fort Valley State University. During the ceremony, Mr. Willie Williams, Director of Alumni Affairs of the university joined NAFEO officers in honoring his accomplishments. Mr. Daniels will be placed in the directory of HBCU Distinguished Alumni, published by NAFEO.

Many HBCUs have presented Mr. Daniels with certificates of appreciation and awards for his work in enhancing the financial literacy of its students. Additionally, through donated funds, the organization has provided academic and enhancement scholarships to many students of HBCUs. Mr. Daniels serves on the Advisory Boards for the College of Business and Applied Professional Sciences at South Carolina State University and Fort Valley State University’s Department of Business and Economics.

Mr. Daniels is currently President and CEO of SFEPD, a non-profit organization that works to enhance the level of financial and economic literacy of individuals across the United States. Mr. Daniels has more than 33 years of experience in financial management and investments. In 2008, he was appointed to serve on President George W. Bush’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy. He continues to serve in this role under President Barack Obama’s administration. Mr. Daniels is a member of the Board of Directors of the Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards. His organization is also a partner of the Financial Services Roundtable, which represents one of the largest financial services corporations in the country.
