Growing up, what kind of relationship did you have with money?
I was frugal spender since my parents made me understand the value of money from an early age,
What was it like to serve as an SFEPD Student Ambassador teaching your peers about personal finance, and what did you learn about yourself from this experience?
It has been an amazing experience to be a Student Ambassador. I have learned a lot more about money management and the importance of financial literacy. I have learned that I need to diversify my investment portfolio. Presenting to fellow students has been a learning curve for me. I enjoyed the interaction with students and the finance expert’s virtual lectures were a value add.
What are the major benefits of students learning personal finance skills through seminars and classes during their college years?
Students will understand the importance of money and can have a better relationship with money.
When should students start learning basic concepts about personal finance (in elementary, middle school, high school, or college) and why?
I think students should start in elementary school…the earlier the better!
If you could share one financial tip with college students, what would it be?
Try to reduce your expense where possible, this will help you in long run.
As a result of your Student Ambassador experience, what key lessons did you learn to help you manage your money better and is planning for your financial future an important goal after college?
Keep an eye on your credit score, and pay your bills on times to avoid fees. I want to start investing in long term investments so that I can be financially free.
How did serving as a Student Ambassador help you prepare for your future and your career goals?
Being a Student Ambassador allowed me to present in front of a large audience which helped to reduce my fear of public speaking. My relationship with money has improved, and I have started planning for my future.
